For the past three years, a dedicated group of volunteers from the Autism Treatment Center in Dallas has faithfully come to help at the World of Goods Resale Store. Kim, Meg, Becky, Lora, and Chris volunteer four days a week at the store, tagging all sorted donations and putting clothing on hangers and rolling racks to be placed on the sales floor. The group’s efforts are an invaluable part of the day-to-day operation, ensuring there is always new inventory for shoppers.
Edwin Chinchilla, Store Manager, feels that the group is part of his team. “They are truly an extension of our staff and we depend on these volunteers so much. They are key to what we are able to accomplish.”
Through the training program, the volunteers are able to gain retail skills that may lead to opportunities for employment in the future. Putting in approximately 320 hours per month, the group works hard to refine their skills while also giving back to the community. The volunteers may be “behind the scenes,” but their contributions directly benefit Catholic Charities of Dallas.
The World of Goods Resale Store supports Refugee & Empowerment Services to assist newly arriving refugee families in the community. It is only through volunteers and donations that we are able to serve so many in need!
